Genesis appoints Martin Sreba as Global Head of Strategic Accounts

Genesis appoints Martin Sreba as Global Head of Strategic Accounts

London, New York: Thursday, 15th October 2020

Genesis, the global financial markets software firm has appointed sales and product strategist, Martin Sreba as Global Head of Strategic Accounts.

In this new role, Sreba will be responsible for the firm’s global strategic accounts. Financial firms are keen to unlock opportunities for growth and also address the risk-ridden workflows ripe for automation. Sreba will work in partnership with clients to identify digitisation priorities, and by accelerating adoption of Genesis Low-Code Application Platform he will empower firms to build scalable, secure and resilient solutions at a fraction of the normal software development time. In addition, Sreba will support Genesis in further extending its footprint in the investment management space to meet the increasing demand for technology.

The appointment comes at a pivotal time for Genesis, having trebled growth in 2020 and recently announcing a strategic investment from Citi to leverage Genesis’ Low-Code Application Platform (LCAP) to drive key innovation priorities.

Sreba brings a wealth of experience as a product strategist and in growing businesses. A highly respected leader in the financial software and services industry known for the global expansion of SS&C Advent. During his 18 year tenure he rose to Global Head of Product Strategy and Sales, responsible for business growth and product direction for various portfolio management solutions, including Geneva, the most widely leveraged investment management system in the alternative industry.

Across the industry, firms have been forced to adapt to remote working practices while still under pressure to digitise and deliver returns to clients. In response, firms’ awareness is growing of the significant advantages that Genesis LCAP can bring to overhaul legacy processes, mitigate risk and ultimately increase business workflow efficiencies and drive down cost.

The platform is an enterprise offering uniquely positioned with the extensive Genesis Application Library of pre-built solutions to help the financial markets address a spectrum of challenges. It is the only low-code platform built entirely for the specific requirements of the financial markets and is capable of delivering both the simple Business Process Management (BPM)  workflows as well as extending to the specific and often complex use cases such as electronic trading , handling real-time data distribution with low latency and high throughput in a performant and secure environment.

Stephen Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Genesis, said: “I am delighted to welcome Martin to the team. His pedigree as an industry trailblazer, launching and successfully growing products will be invaluable as we support the digitisation imperatives of our global strategic clients. This year alone we have trebled growth which makes the timing of Martin’s appointment ideal as we scale further to meet industry demand for our technology.”

“As the industry has been forced to adapt, Genesis LCAP provides the building blocks to address very specific functions and processes and integrate seamlessly into a firm’s core infrastructure on average 80% faster than building an application from scratch.”

Martin Sreba, Global Head of Strategic Accounts, said: “I am incredibly excited to join Genesis, such an innovative and forward-looking firm, long overdue in the financial technology space. The timing of bringing to market a platform as-a-service offering to the industry could not be more ideal, as many financial institutions still struggle with antiquated legacy applications, outdated internal workflows and the incurred technical debt of their third party vendors. I am looking forward to heading our Global Strategic Accounts, focusing on expanding and nurturing our key partnerships as well as looking into the future for new opportunities.”

genesis receives strategic investment from Citi to drive its key innovation priorities

genesis receives strategic investment from Citi to drive its key innovation priorities

London, New York – Monday, 5th October, 2020:

Genesis Global Technology Limited (hereafter Genesis) the global financial markets software firm, has received a strategic investment from Citi via its Markets FinTech Investments and SPRINT groups to leverage Genesis’ “Low-Code Application Platform” (LCAP) to drive its key innovation priorities. Genesis’ LCAP, enables financial firms to accelerate the delivery of technology roadmaps with a clear focus on identifying and delivering digitization opportunities across business lines. These initiatives ultimately increase business workflow efficiencies and reduce costs not only within a firm, but also drive innovation for the benefit of the industry as a whole. The amount and terms of the investment are undisclosed.

As financial markets firms grapple with the challenges and economic pressures posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, appreciation is growing for the considerable efficiency advantages that low-code offers both within financial markets and the overall industry. At this pivotal time, financial firms are being driven to fully digitize manual, repetitive workflows, in addition to the novel requirements driven by the transition to remote working. Across the sector, there is increased adoption of cloud-enabled software tools and applications with firms realizing the benefits of greater agility and scale at speed that these solutions deliver.

Unlike generalist low-code providers that cater to straightforward business processes, Genesis LCAP is the only low-code platform tailored for the specific requirements of the financial markets. While capable of delivering these simple Business Process Management (BPM) improvements, Genesis  LCAP extends to address the specific and often highly complex financial markets use cases demanding highly resilient, scalable and performant solutions integrated with cloud technology.

Genesis designs and delivers a suite of solutions using the Genesis LCAP across financial institutions’ business lines. These range from tackling direct automation use cases, such as End User Computing (EUC) replacement and client servicing portals, to addressing complex opportunities including automating end-to-end electronic trading workflows and mobile framework applications. Genesis LCAP has proven able to readily scale and to be fit for large, global institutions, delivering both rapid development and easy integration across the organization.

Commenting on the partnership, Nikhil Joshi, Managing Director, Global Head of Spread Products Technology and Head of Markets Technology for NAM at Citi said:The Low-code application development paradigm has increasingly gained momentum in the financial industry and has the potential to change the way the industry develops applications in the future. Genesis complements our mainstream application development methodologies, and integrates with them quite well. We are very much looking forward to partnering with Genesis to accelerate Citi’s digitization journey.”

Stephen Murphy, CEO of genesis, said: “Our low-code application platform is essentially democratizing product design. We are delighted that Citi has chosen to partner with Genesis and  believe this strategic relationship puts us in a very strong position to not only grow, but also lead a critical effort to deliver low-code application development across the financial markets. Clients can create custom built products and solutions without having to write substantial lines of code and solutions can be developed on average 80% faster than building from scratch.”

ING partners with genesis to streamline Credit and Political Risk Insurance industry

ING partners with genesis to streamline Credit and Political Risk Insurance in expanding global market

London – Monday, 27th July, 2020:

ING is pleased to announce its partnership with genesis, the Low Code Application Platform for financial markets, to launch the Credit Insurance Application (“CIA”), a deal-flow and portfolio application which will transform the management of credit and political risk insurance (“CPRI”) globally.

ING’s London Innovation Lab has spearheaded CIA which will improve efficiency and promote digitisation across the $300bn global CPRI market1.  CIA seeks to overhaul the existing process with a tailored approach to advance data and reporting tools, increase connectivity and efficiency during the end to end credit insurance process.

A combination of cloud hosting and genesis’s Low Code Application Platform on which CIA is built, allows for much faster deployment, increased functionality and control, and a material reduction in data processing errors. Its flexibility means it can be easily customised, can connect to external market platforms and sit between or alongside existing internal systems.

Jean-Maurice Elkouby, Head of CPRI, at ING said: “The rapid expansion of CPRI both in volume and geographically has led to a large exposure which needs to be managed. Historically low-tech working practices with no specific system architecture create cost and efficiency challenges. By joining forces with genesis, we created a tailored solution that will drive efficiency. Innovation is in ING’s DNA and I’m delighted that our London Innovation Labs has driven this to transform market practice in very traditional market. London’s fintech sector continues to be a centre for innovation and expertise, and we look forward to working with our partners to lead improvements in market practice across the board.”

ING CPRI has grown rapidly surpassing $10bn lending insured in 2020 and is managed out of dedicated CPRI Syndicated Finance teams globally. This growth can increase complexity around deal flow and portfolio management, which CIA will address. CPRI is an active market with around 50 insurers and 50 banks transacting and has become the second most important portfolio management tool for banks after secondary sales2.

Stephen Murphy, CEO, at genesis added: “The Credit Insurance Application is unique to the market and has allowed us to maximise the very latest technology to fully optimise efficiency through automated workflows. It will allow for consistency in data and reporting in a multi-billion-dollar industry. We are very much looking forward to continuing our collaboration with ING to bring new, innovative solutions to this market. Even more exciting is the connectivity with broker systems and insurers, which is the next stage of development towards a market platform that has the ability to rapidly and securely scale to deliver business growth.”

genesis’ Low Code Application Platform will be rolled out from July 2020 across all main bank users.

genesis expands leadership team with appointment of Nick Kolba as Global Head of Platform

Experienced Chief Technology Officer and FINOS leader takes key strategic role.

London, New York: Thursday, 21st May, 2020:

genesis, the global capital markets software firm, has further expanded its management team by appointing Nick Kolba as Global Head of Platform.

Kolba is widely recognised for his experience in financial services as a Chief Technology Officer and his leadership of the Fintech Open Source Foundation (FINOS).

In this new role at genesis, Kolba will be responsible for delivering the firm’s technology strategy reporting to Stephen Murphy, CEO. In response to the ever-growing industry appreciation and appetite for low code development, Kolba will help accelerate client adoption of genesis and its Low Code Application Platform.

The appointment of Kolba comes at a key time for both genesis and the industry. Having closed their second funding round in December 2019, genesis continues to grow both in terms of client and industry interest and organisational expansion. For the financial services industry, firms are operating in uncharted territory. Business continuity plans have been put to the test beyond expectation and leaders are reflecting on how best to shore up their organisations for what lies ahead. Firms are reviewing infrastructures, operating models and software applications to extract every possible ounce of operating efficiency. As a result firms are calling on genesis to help them address risk-ridden manual processes, identify opportunities for product development and harness the potential of end-to-end automation.

Kolba brings a wealth of financial technology experience in global, high-growth and blue-chip firms. He has spent the past 20 years leading enterprise-wide technology projects as both Chief Technology and Product Officer at OpenFin and, prior to that, as a Technology Director at Thomson Reuters, where he led the development of the Eikon App Studio.

In addition to his leadership role at FINOS, Kolba is also the co-founder and Chair of the FINOS FDC3 programme, an interoperability standard with over 100 participants from 40+ financial firms representing major sell-side, buy-side, and vendor firms across the industry.

Commenting on the appointment, Stephen Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of genesis, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Nick to the team. He brings a blend of industry insights, community engagement and capital markets expertise at a time when we are growing at an ever accelerating pace, which makes for an ideal fit, at an ideal time. We have made a number of strategic hires over the past months as the capital markets industry is truly awakening to the potential that low code development offers to help them deliver immediate operational efficiencies and reap commercial returns, at speed. ”

genesis is well positioned to help the capital markets community innovate at speed by delivering the genesis Low Code Application Platform as a Platform-as-a-Service [PaaS], a full self-service offering to empower clients to build their own solutions.

The platform democratises product design, enabling users to create products and solutions without having to write substantial lines of code, making the development of solutions much faster and much simpler. It is the only low code platform 100% dedicated to capital markets that is capable of supporting the industry requirements of building solutions that are highly resilient, scalable and performant, while integration with cloud technology provides agile solution delivery.

Nick Kolba, added: “I am incredibly excited to join genesis as Global Head of Platform and lead the low code revolution in capital markets. I look forward to working with the genesis leadership team to deliver a fully self-service PaaS that empowers the capital markets community to address business priorities and solve operational challenges. The rapid time to market unlocked by low code development is even more critical at this moment, as firms look to respond with agility to the changing market environment.”

The appointment follows genesis joining FINOS to advance collaboration in financial services by fostering adoption of open source, open standards, and collaborative software development practices.

Genesis Announces the Release of the 4th Generation of ‘Genesis Platform’

Genesis unveils the 4th Generation of its Low Code Application Platform. Every generation release is an important step forward to building on the learning incorporated from previous project engagements, and to provide the best user experience of Genesis application.

London: 8:00am, Monday, 2nd March, 2020:

Since inception the Platform has been used to create a wide range of applications covering all asset types and many parts of the Capital Markets value chain from buyside to market infrastructure for both product and client specific solutions.

The goal of the Genesis Platform is to transform the effectiveness (time to deliver, cost) of developing and operating robust and performant Capital Markets applications – those that process financial instruments – it’s the new blueprint for Capital Markets systems solution delivery.

Some of the key new features in Genesis Platform 4.0 include:

  • Free Layout Web User Interface: The Genesis web framework now implements (by default) a ‘free multi-window’ layout. Users can select the front-end controls they want to see, adjust the size & position of those controls (as well as column selection, ordering, styles, buttons etc within each control element), save and recall multiple desktop layouts. A new ‘tabbing feature on our grids allow you to set tabs with different filters. These changes significantly raise the feature set of the Genesis Web UI and further enhances the user experience.

  • Genesis Environment Manager (GEM): With cloud infrastructure it’s so easy to spin up new hosts that with multiple project teams and multiple environments managing these environments can easily get out of hand leading to cloud cost escalation. GEM aligns individual staff with the hosts they are working on – controlling who can create, start, stop and communicating environment status changes to interested parties. Environments are shut down when not being used, saving $$.

  • Internal notification messaging upgraded to Aeron: The notification of events between the internal microservices within the Genesis Framework server side now communicate with each other using Aeron messaging. Genesis seeks to leverage high quality, high performance open source software within the platform. Aeron messaging is proven and respected in our industry – its implementation has given the platform a further performance uptick.

  • Genesis Platform Abstraction Layer (GPAL): Developing applications on the Genesis Platform involves a combination of metadata and business specific code (plus graphical tools and auto code generation that assist). Currently the server-side development environment allows metadata to be created in different parts of the system that can be inconsistent; there is a set of tools to check for and then correct these inconsistencies.  A more powerful approach is to prevent inconsistencies from being created in the first place, together with even more productive programming environment with greater code auto-suggestion and error prevention.  The GPAL initiative will deliver these improvements; Release 4.0 contains the first phase of changes leading to these goals, focused on increasing the richness in meta data definitions and reducing the need for compensating code.

  • Database API: Genesis Platform database layer API provides a set of data access services that abstract solution developers from the underlying database engine. These services make solutions portable across several database technologies and provide services around high performance NOSQL and time series databases that would otherwise involve additional programming effort. In Release 4.0 the database API has been extended to offer solution developers new ways of handling asynchronous database operations, by exposing database operation using reactive extensions (RxJava2) and Kotlin coroutines. These provide an easier and cleaner syntax for dealing with asynchronous operations, speeding up development time and leading to more responsive applications.

  • Additional Integration Adapters: Genesis Framework includes a library of reusable business components, each of which can solve for parts of a new solution requirement; some of these components are interface adapters. Release 4.0 includes new integration adapters for Trading Technology (TT), Geneva (SS&C), Refinitiv (Reuters) Elektron, Refinitv DataScope Select (DSS) & TraFIX vendor packages as well as upgrades to several existing business components.

We at Genesis refuse to sit still when it comes to best serving our Capital Markets clients. We are constantly looking to enhance and evolve our Low Code Application Platform so that our clients can continue to capitalise on efficiency gains when developing applications that process financial instruments.

genesis bolsters commercial team, with the appointment of Global Head of Sales & Marketing

genesis, the international capital markets software firm, has appointed Felipe Oliveira as Global Head of Sales & Marketing, following a sustained period of growth and investment.

London: 8:00am, Tuesday, 25th February, 2020:

Felipe Oliveira will be instrumental in delivering genesis’ mission to help the capital markets community innovate at speed. genesis works with a wide range of financial institutions including buy-side, sell-side, execution venues and clearing houses, providing a Low Code Application Platform, built specifically for capital markets. The platform enables the creation of products and solutions without having to write substantial lines of code, making the development of solutions much faster and much simpler. It is the only platform capable of supporting the requirements of capital markets by building solutions that are highly resilient, scalable and performant.

Oliveira brings a wealth of capital markets and commercial leadership experience in global, high-growth firms. Oliveira held a senior role at Amber Capital Management, a global multi-billion dollar Risk Arbitrage Hedge Fund, leading investment initiatives across the capital markets spectrum. Recently, Oliveira has worked at Costa Coffee and LRS Suntory, the fourth largest beverage business in the world, in commercial planning and strategy roles. Early in his career, Oliveira worked at Bloomberg Tradebook and went on to build a broker-dealer business in New York for Brazil’s largest independent broker-dealer, Agora Senior Securities Corp, acquired since by Banco Bradesco.

Oliveira joins genesis as it pursues an ambitious expansion strategy. He will be responsible for helping clients take advantage of market opportunities by using genesis’ Low Code Application Platform to build products and solutions to automate workflows, which in turn enhance operational efficiency and increase revenue. The company plans to grow its global presence and develop solutions across market segments.

Commenting on the announcement, Felipe Oliveira, said: “I am thrilled to join genesis at such an exciting time and drive its mission of helping capital markets participants adapt, innovate, and transform their business models through the adoption of our Low Code Application Platform. We’re witnessing the ever increasing challenges the industry is facing due to compliance and regulatory changes, increasing technology and operational costs, business enhancements requirements, and more. The industry is ready for genesis as firms look to remain competitive and rapidly respond to the changing market environment. ”

Commenting on the appointment, Stephen Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of genesis, said: “We are delighted to be joined by Felipe as we gear up for the next stage of genesis’ growth. There is a significant opportunity for both genesis and our clients to adapt to the changes in capital markets driven by regulation and cost, to drive performance through automation.”

Murphy continued: “Felipe’s appointment builds on our plans to grow our headcount to further bolster our sales and marketing efforts and cement genesis’ position as the Low Code Application Platform for capital markets software development. Felipe’s experience in growing businesses, complemented by his strong customer understanding and empathy, will be invaluable as we navigate the opportunities ahead of us.”

genesis is enjoying fast growth and earlier this month announced that it had been chosen by XP Investments, the largest broker-dealer in Brazil, to design, build and implement products to automate workflows.

XP Investments selects genesis to deliver products to streamline & automate workflows

genesis’ proven ability for rapid delivery was a key factor for XP Investments. A suite of products has been built on genesis’ Low Code Application Platform that enables the delivery of robust, secure products and solutions at speed.

London – 8:00am, Thursday, 6th February, 2020

genesis, the international capital markets software firm, has partnered with XP Investments to design, build and implement products to automate workflows, which will in turn support business growth.

XP Investments provides an array of equities, fixed income and derivatives products and services to both institutions and individuals. Previously relying on manual, complex and time-consuming processes (for example, legacy databases, Excel, voice, instant messenger and email communications), the firm was looking for a smarter, digital approach.

Following a competitive due diligence process, XP Investments selected genesis due to their deep domain knowledge and Low Code Application Platform, built specifically for capital markets. The platform enables the rapid creation of products and solutions without having to write substantial lines of code. It is the only capital markets-wide, asset-class-agnostic platform for developing, sustaining and operating technology solutions.

XP Investments initially chose genesis to develop a treasury product to automate workflow management between the trading desk, institutional clients and wealth managers. The first iteration was developed and deployed within only weeks; demonstrating that building on genesis’ Low Code Application Platform is much faster, simpler and more cost-effective than the use of other internal/external vendors.

Following the success of the treasury product, genesis has collaborated closely with XP Investments to develop a suite of complementary post-trade and wealth management products. The development has included full integration with XP Investments’ existing in-house and vendor technology, for example, Bloomberg TOMS, Pershing, and a CRM platform. genesis is constantly improving the products and adding new functionality with each iteration, made possible with the rapid development and ease of integration that comes with the Low Code Application Platform.

With this new product suite, XP Investments is able to provide automated workflows to streamline the overall client experience, significantly increase trading volumes and, in parallel, reduce operational cost and risk.

“After a thorough market review, we chose genesis because of their expertise in the capital markets space – especially treasury, post-trade, wealth management, and across asset classes.” said Adelia Gomez, Chief Operations Officer of XP Investments. “We are very impressed by genesis’ ability to quickly deliver quality solutions. As a result, our trading capacity has grown significantly; revenue has increased, while our operational efficiency has been enhanced to the benefit of our clients.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Stephen Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of genesis, said: “We are privileged to have XP Investments as a strategic partner. We are very proud that we continue to deliver these exceptional products to the industry all built on the Low Code Application Platform. We look forward to progressing our innovative collaboration with XP Investments to develop future products that will ultimately help scale the business.”

genesis raises $1.8m to fuel growth from Illuminate Financial Management and Tribeca Early Stage Partners

London, New York – Wednesday, 18th December, 2019

genesis, the international capital markets software firm today announced the closing of its second capital raise, securing $1.8m of investment in a round that was led by Illuminate Financial Management, a U.K. based capital markets venture capital firm and Tribeca Early Stage Partners, a New York venture group. genesis has now raised $5m since its first external capital injection in November 2018.

The new funding will be invested in further development of genesis platform’s core technology, sales and marketing to cement genesis’ position as the ‘low-code’ platform for capital markets software development.

Across the entire capital markets industry, firms are under continuous pressure to digitise manual and repetitive business processes, as well as address a swathe of industry challenges. These range from meeting wide-reaching regulatory requirements, to the limitations of incumbent vendors and software methodology processes, all while finding ways to increase revenue and reduce operational cost.

The genesis platform is a Low-Code Application Platform, built specifically for capital markets, that enables the rapid creation of products and solutions without having to write substantial lines of code. Infrastructure management is minimised and the genesis platform ultimately democratises product design as the coding required is radically reduced, making the development of solutions much faster and much simpler. A unique proposition for the financial services industry, genesis Low-Code Application Platform is the only platform capable of supporting the requirements of capital markets, by building solutions that are highly resilient, scalable and performant.

A growing suite of products to serve a wide range of functional areas have already been built, implemented and deployed on genesis’ Low-Code Application Platform— ranging from a new interest rate pricing product, to a credit risk insurance syndicate loan marketplace through to wealth management portfolio structuring and workflow products.

Commenting on the funding, Mark Beeston, Managing Partner and Founder of Illuminate Financial Management, said: “Since Illuminate invested in late 2018 genesis has really emerged as the leading provider in the low-code, pro-code movement within capital markets.  We see genesis as the industry key to enabling digitisation and the innovation it supports. We are pleased to further support their journey.”

Tribeca Early Stage Partners, a U.S. network of entrepreneurs and business leaders with deep domain expertise in institutional finance and enterprise technology joined the investment round.

Nick Ogurtsov, Partner at Tribeca Early Stage Partners, added: “From the first time we met genesis, we felt the real potential to fundamentally re-define the very standards of software development within capital markets. This is exactly what we see genesis doing today, with its low-code platform that creates dramatically faster time-to-market at a much lower cost than traditional software development methods.”

“We are delighted by the continued investment and support of Illuminate Financial and Tribeca Early Stage Partners. Their investment puts us in a really strong position to continue to grow and lead a critical effort to make low-code application development prevalent across capital markets.” said Stephen Murphy, CEO of genesis. “Low-code has been used widely outside the industry to create applications at speed, and at a drastically reduced cost, although to date these platforms have not been built to support capital markets. We are excited by what we have already achieved both in creating new solutions and products, improving existing solutions and now look forward to bringing genesis Low-Code Application Platform to the capital markets community en masse.”
