FinJS Blog - Highlights of FinJS Presentation

Stephen Murphy, co-Founder & CEO of genesis: Highlights of “Rapid solutions based on the microservices architecture” demonstration at FinJS.

Stephen Murphy, co-Founder & CEO of genesis, presented at FinJS on 19th March in New York. He built a web application with NO coding in under five minutes to illustrate the accelerated solution delivery that is possible with the genesis’ microservices framework and tools.

FinJS is a capital markets network that showcases innovations driven by web technologies. It is the brainchild of OpenFin, the operating system of finance, and is the biggest JavaScript for finance conference. A group of world class speakers gathered at FinJS to share their expertise in JavaScript — which attendees have described as “the most impactful” and “a journey into the future of what is possible.”

The success of genesis’ microservices framework

Stephen began by telling the audience about genesis, providing a brief background, before moving onto demonstrating a web application being built without any coding.

genesis was founded six years ago, in 2013, by Stephen and his co-founder James Harrison. Stephen explained that four years of initial research & development (R&D) had gone into building a microservices framework before going to market three years ago, designed specifically for the world of capital markets. The framework abstracts away complexity and enables solutions to be built much faster, often in a matter of days or in today’s case in under five minutes! The framework is a complete UI and integration framework, for developing desktop apps and also web, OpenFin and excel apps.

Stephen added: “We are often asked how we work with our clients? We collaborate with clients to build new products and client specific solutions, we have a growing product library available to capital markets participants, all built on the framework. Our products address challenges across the capital markets spectrum from broker-dealers to clearing houses to asset managers.”

Building a web UI on OpenFin in just a few minutes

Stephen explained that genesis has invested heavily in development tools around the framework to enable solutions to be built even faster and that he would be demonstrating Creative Studio. genesis can build and deploy their own suite of products and solutions as web applications and desktop applications directly onto OpenFin’s OS, using their proprietary Creative Studio tool.

A genesis’ solution, Automated Quoting System, AQS, was introduced. AQS is “a multi-asset class trade blotter, fixed income trading platform that integrates with Bloomberg Trade Order Management Solutions (TOMS). It is used by wealth management and sales desks, treasury desks and broker-dealers.”

Stephen then demonstrated building the web UI for AQS in just a few minutes!

Look out for genesis at the next finJS event in London on 21st, May.
